Spotlight On Peripheral Vascular Products
Many of the peripheral vascular products refer to the devices used to treat peripheral vascular disease (PVD). Generally the purview of vascular surgeons, they include treatment of the blood and lymphatic vessels of the body excluding the heart and the brain.
Peripheral vascular disease is a subset of cardiovascular disease which usually appear symptomatic in the lower extremities. Treatment of peripheral vascular disease may involve similar techniques to that used for treating coronary artery disease, including smoking cessation, exercise, and medications. Surgical intervention includes angioplasty, atherectomy, and stents (both drug eluting and non-drug eluting), and vascular bypasses.
